Earlier this year, we got the chance to ask Deena, the lead singer, several random questions— here what she had to say!!!

GFC: So, we are totally excited about having you guys here in Paradise, TX, with us!! It is gonna be an AWESOME night!!!? I know this, our guys are really excited about having you guys here!!!
Now tell me this- I know that the way you guys came together is rather crazy- tell me how you guys became Don’t Wake Aislin?
DWA: Well, Don’t Wake Aislin as it is today, started in Walmart! Well, first the internet and then a surprise encounter at Walmart! My best friend, Sheena, and I were in the library studying when we came across Myspace and how you can use Myspace to search for boys in your area. HAHA!! Needless to say, we found Brandon and his friend Tito (who, by the way, are just as disciplined in their studies as we were!!) We had talked about meeting up and hanging out with them, but the occasion had yet to officially happen. So, Sheena and I took matters into our own hands, and when Brandon’s “away message” on his instant messenger said “At Walmart with Tito,” we galavanted over , met the guys, and ended up creating long-term friendships. Brandon and I would jam a lot throughout the semester- that’s how he found out that I could sing and write, and he invited me to audition for his band that was getting started.
Here wer are 6 years later… Brandon and I being the only 2 original members.
GFC: Wow, it is amazing what you can find at Walmart!!! Now you guys live close to Paradise, correct??
DWA: We are all basically from the Dallas Metroplex!
GFC: What is your favorite part of being in a band??
DWA: Having the ability to do what we’ve been called to do, sharing our hearts through what we’ve dreamt of doing all of our lives, and seeing the country while doing so! I personally never traveled much growing up, but since I’ve been in the band, all of the places we’ve seen, faces we’ve met, and unforgettable experiences we’ve had- I couldn’t trade them for anything and can’t wait to see what is in store for the future!!!
GFC: Wow- I’m sure that traveling the country has allowed you to play in some pretty cool venues… what would you say is the coolest place you guys have played??
DWA: Recently, we played at a small venue in Stillwater, OK, called The Greenhouse. A really awesome young couple live there and host a student community center that showcases local art, invites any and everyone to come in, and they built a stage in the basement for live music! It was a really welcoming place to stop by on the road, being able to eat and clean up before our next stop. The basement was pretty awesome. We played acoustic that night, but we can’t wait to go back and play plugged-in!! It would definitely be a cool place to pack in a crowd!! http://osugreenhouse.com
GFC: Tell me this, you guys have put out some great music… what goes through your mind when you listen to your own CD?
DWA: Most of the time, listening to my own CD is a warm-up or a learning tool. I’ll sit and listen and figure out what I could do better next time i am in the studio, or how I can give the same feel in a live show. Every now and then, I embarrass myself when I see people are watching me in my car, jamming out to my own music, but then I realize they have no idea I am listening to myself!!!
GFC: Deena, thanks soo much for taking time to answer our questions, and allowing us to know who Don’t Wake Aislin really is… As we wrap up, let’s play a little Rapid Fire. I’ll give you a word and you tell us what the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word…
GFC: Old Car.
DWA: 1969 SS Chevy Chevelle, Red Please!!!
GFC: Dessert.
DWA: CHEESECAKE!!
GFC: Vegetable.
DWA: Spinach… Popeye…
GFC: Oklahoma.
DWA: Friends.
GFC: Texas.
DWA: HOME!!!
GFC: Baseball.
DWA: Go Rangers!
GFC: My Mother?
DWA: I love my mama!!… wait… my mother, or yours? Because, I don’t know your mother…
GFC: Very true… But you should meet her, she is a sweet lady as well!! Deena, thanks soo much for your time!! We are super excited about having you guys at GFC this Friday night!!!
